Some people do 100 pushups every day to make sure they look their best. Some treat going to the gym like a religious ritual. It’s a basic truth that any attempt to improve your health or appearance will require a certain amount of commitment. Often, that means being able to stick to a routine.
What’s the first thing you do when you get up in the morning? Well, if you’re taking care of your skin, a minimum of cleansing and moisturizing will be necessary. Depending on your needs and priorities, there may also be exfoliants, serums and other magical products (not all of which will need to be used daily).
If you’re exercising every day, your beauty and skincare routine is also going to need to work around that. Exercise makes you sweaty, if nothing else. You don’t really want to put a lot of effort into getting clean and then immediately start working out at maximum intensity. You may need a quick wipe over of your face, but save the bulk of the work until after you’ve put your skin, and the rest of your body, through its paces.
It’ll help if you’re not wearing makeup when you exercise, or at least minimize its application. Getting hot and sweaty is a recipe for clogging your pores. That’s why any products you do use should be fairly light. Then, once the session is done, you need to at least splash some water on your face. This won’t just get rid of some sweat and bacteria; it will help cool your skin back to the right temperature.
Hair is another thing that can spread oil to your face, so keeping it tied back in a workout serves more purposes than just keeping it out of your eyes. Be careful with the towel you use as well; make sure it’s clean and not too plush, as that can trap bacteria. After exercise and in other areas of your life, try not to touch your face too much. Your hands pick up dirt and oil of all sorts from daily life, including gym equipment, so try not to spread it any further.
With a bit of attention, you can ensure your daily exercise and daily skincare routine work together to improve appearance as well as performance.
