For a lot of us, the quest to look younger starts when we look in the mirror. While your entire body ages, it’s your face that has the most telltale signs, and it’s what people see the most!
To turn back the hands of time on our faces, it’s tempting to try one of the many expensive facial serums and creams on the market today. And, boy, are there a lot to choose from, with some going as high as $500 or more for just an ounce. You’ll usually hear that these prices are justified because of the exotic, rare ingredients the skin care items contain. You might also be told that because the maker put a lot of research into it, you’re paying the price for that scientific work, too.
In reality, you’re probably not going to find the skin fountain of youth in an expensive product. While these products can produce some results, it’s usually only for the short term, and you have to keep buying to maintain any positive progress you see.
Keeping your skin young
To keep your skin looking as young as possible, you don’t need fancy, pricey products. It’s really quite simple: get good nutrition, enough water and essential fatty acids and a good multivitamin with antioxidants daily. You should also avoid using soaps and other skin irritants too often and make sure you are protecting your skin from the sun. Damage from the sun over time shows up as aging markers, including lines, wrinkles and age spots.
One other cause of skin aging is inflammation. This can be tough to detect but does cause skin issues such as wrinkles, lines, hyper-pigmentation, dryness, puffiness and sensitivity. Inflammation can be caused by many things, from lifestyle habits to illnesses or diet, so you may need to take a closer look here to determine if this is a factor for you.
If you smoke, now is the time to stop as this can really age your skin fast! Exercise regularly for that youthful glow and drink less alcohol; it’s dehydrating, which is bad for your skin. Don’t forget to use facial moisturizer every day.
With some lifestyle and diet changes, you can start having more youthful skin without breaking the bank. As an added bonus, many of the things you do to help your skin will also have a positive impact on your overall health and well-being.
